Inspired by Chay Blyth to set a record, at the age of 12, David decided he would attempt to cross the Atlantic East-West singlehanded and compete in the 1976 OSTAR at the age of 17.

He was not allowed to enter the race (minimum age 21) but set out from Jersey on the 5th June 1976, the same day 126 yachts set out in the race.  43 days later he sailed into Newport Rhode Island to the sound of ‘Rule Britannia’ being played by a local brass band.

David will be sharing his experiences, thoughts and memories of the voyage with us and is looking forward to meeting the members.
