Bastille Day Cruise
The aim is to spend 12, 13 and 14 July at Honfleur (and possibly 11 July), departing on the morning of 15 July to return to the Solent. This will enable the crews to enjoy the Bastille Day celebrations on Monday and explore the beautiful town of Honfleur. There is a market on Saturday.
Nab Tower to Honfleur is 81NM and prevailing SW winds would allow a fast passage on a beam reach. Skippers may want to make either a day or night passage from the Solent. If the tidal gate for the Seine is missed then Le Havre (9NM from Honfleur) has a marina with all tidal access.
It is vital to time the entry into the Seine (see below)
LE HAVRE TIDES (BST)
Date LW HW Coefficient
11 July 0405 0934 81
1633 2156 87
12 July 0502 1023 92
1729 2245 98
13 July 0558 1114 101
1824 2333 105
14 July 0652 1202 106
15 July 0020 106

The Lock to Honfleur is open 24 hours a day, (Inbound open on the hour, outbound open on the half hour). Because of the very strong tides in the Chenal de Rouen (Part of the Seine estuary) entry into the lock from the river is strongly advised between LW Le Havre +1 30 and HW Le Havre -1 00. Departure is advised between HW -1 and LW. In other words entering on the flood and leaving on the ebb.
It should be noted that the tidal coefficients are very high on 12, 13, 14 and 15 July. A mean spring tide is 95 and a very big spring tide is 120.
: 6 or 7 days depending on boats and conditions
Note: On line registrations close on the Saturday night before.
