Join

Thank you for your interest in joining Channel Sailing Club as a new member.
Hopefully you will have already browsed our website and got a sense of what the club is all about.  In particularly we would encourage you to read the “About Us” pages.

Please now review the information below and then complete the application form which starts at the bottom of the page.

Once you have completed and submitted your form on-line, it will be considered by the Club’s General Committee. Before taking a decision on your application, the Committee would really like you attend a Club night at the Ashtead clubhouse.  You can then get to chat to Committee and other Club members over a drink at the club bar.  Whilst the club opens at 8:00pm we recommend that you arrange to meet one of our contacts (typically our very friendly membership secretary) at 8:30pm.

Membership FAQ's

Q. How much is it to join?

A. The Annual subscription is £35 per person. Where more than one Member lives at the same address they can each pay a £30 Joint subscription rate.

Q. Do you do a family membership?

A. No, all members have to be over 18 and join as individuals. However there is a reduced subscription rate for those living at the same address.

Q. Do I need to own a boat?

A. No, we actively encourage both boat owners and non owners to join.  Part of the club ethos is to introduce those who have never sailed to join and become sailors.  Whether experienced or not, both types of candidate will be equally welcome.

Q. When will my membership run from and to?

A. At the moment we run a rolling membership so your renewal will be one year from the date of your application approval.  However there are plans to standardise membership to start on a particular date.  Initial membership will prorate the months remaining of that year.

Q. What happens if I live too far away or have another reason why I am not able to attend a Club night.

A. Attending club nights is entirely optional however to get the full benefit out of the club we would encourage all new members to attend.  Club nights are hugely varied with social, educational and training events regularly held throughout the year.  If you wish to be included on a club race or cruise then attending the briefing is essential.

Q. When will my membership be confirmed?

A. Firstly all applications need to receive General Committee approval.  This may take a week or so but is usually completed within a week.  After that your membership starts once payment has been received.

Filling in the online application form

Before you start your application, make sure you read our Handbook_and Club By-laws.  During the application process you will be asked to confirm you have read them.

You will need details of any RYA qualifications and other sailing experience as these are part of the application.

If you are a boat owner it is useful to have details of your boat. If more than one member owns a boat we ask that only one person fills in the details.

You can pay the membership fee via the secure payment systems on this web site using a debit card, credit card or a Paypal account.

If you have any queries please contact the Membership Secretary
