  We intend to replace it with an ad-hoc cruise of some sort later in the year.

  The shipping forecast - simultaneously soothing and soporific yet sometimes scary and disconcerting.

  In this talk we will look at all aspects of the forecast, from its humble origins to its place as a staple of our broadcasting.

  We will look in depth at some of the sea areas and their compelling and often surprising histories as well as the characters who have contributed to its development.

  We will also look at its influence in popular culture - did you know for example that it featured in the opening ceremony of the London Olympics?
